Think of the technology advances of the last 20 years (since the first WMA Golf and Tennis Classic):  DVDs, digital cameras, Wi-Fi, hybrid cars, Google Search, social networking, flash drives, GPS, text messaging, smartphones, nanotechnology, to name just a few!

The WMA STEM (science, technology, engineering, math) curriculum opens a world of possibilities for students and produces inspired individuals—critical thinkers and creative leaders who will tackle the global challenges of tomorrow. WMA students benefit directly from your support of the Golf and Tennis Classic, whose proceeds fund our technology program, including our STEM curriculum.

WMA is currently in year three of a three-year Middle States Plan.  Thanks to the support of our Golf and Tennis Classic sponsors and participants, we have added Robotics and Engineering projects to the curriculum.  This year, we will add Programming for grades one through eight.  Programming involves using problem-solving skills to make technology (such as a computer or a robot) follow commands to carry out a task.  Potential Programming projects include creating a mobile app, a game, an interactive story, and animation, or a movie.

With your support, students will have at least one STEM project each trimester including Robotics, Engineering and/or Programming .  In addition we hope to have a schoolwide STEM day in 2013-14 and bring in a STEM guest speaker.

Our goal is to infuse STEM into all content areas, since STEM promotes creation, innovation and invention skills that are essential in the global marketplace.  STEM also helps individuals make informed decisions in all parts of their lives.

On behalf of the students who will benefit from your generosity, we thank you for your support.
